A high-level delegation from the Development Bank of Austria (OeEB), led by Executive Board Members Sabine Gaber and Steffen Suhany, together with representatives of Austrian government institutions and members of OeEB’s Supervisory Board, visited the Vinča Resource Recovery Center to review the results of the Belgrade Waste Management PPP project.
During the visit, the delegation toured the Center’s facilities and received a comprehensive overview of the project’s achievements. The Belgrade Waste Management PPP project has transformed a former dumpsite into a modern, energy-efficient waste management center—significantly reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill and utilizing waste as a source of energy.
The Development Bank of Austria is one of the international financial partners that supported the project’s implementation, alongside other financial institutions (EBRD and IFC) and the City of Belgrade.
“We are honored to welcome the OeEB delegation and showcase the tangible results of this landmark project,” said Vladimir Milovanović, Beo Cista Energija Managing Director. “The transformation of Vinča demonstrates what can be achieved through strong international partnerships and a shared commitment to sustainable infrastructure.”
“Seeing the transformation of the Vinča Waste Management Centre firsthand is a powerful reminder of how sustainable infrastructure can create lasting environmental and social impact. By turning municipal waste into energy, the facility helps reduce landfill emissions, improves waste management, and supplies electricity and heat to thousands of households in Belgrade. This closely aligns with OeEB’s commitment to financing climate-friendly infrastructure that promotes resource efficiency, supports the transition to a circular economy, and improves quality of life for local communities.” said Mrs. Sabine Gaber, CEO and Member of OeEB’s Executive Board
Key achievements of the Belgrade Waste Management PPP project include:
- Significant reduction in waste sent to landfill
- Conversion of waste into a source of energy
- Implementation of modern, environmentally compliant waste management infrastructure
- Improved environmental conditions for surrounding communities
The visit reaffirmed the shared commitment of all partners to environmental sustainability and innovative infrastructure solutions in the region.
